Trim and Floor Strips

Probably one of the harder stages for me. Had to be extra careful not to chip the paint as I was using chisels, hammers, screwdrivers and rivet guns very close to the paintwork. Once I had the technique worked out the floor strips went on fairly quick.

Some of these techniques came from the book "How to Restore and Maintain your Vespa Motorscooter" by Bob Darnell, Bob Golfen.

Badges
The Piaggo badge was stuck on using double sided tape.
The Vespa Chrome badge I used special aluminium rivets designed for the job that I picked up from the scooter shop. You bang them on with a hammer using a dolly on the other side that the rivet bouces against.

Floor Strips
I used aluminium pop rivets (3.3mm, 13 mm) with a washer on the rivet. See the close up of rivet and trim
For the tw outer side strips were the lip in the body is I used 18mm length rivets for a better hold.
These are riveted from the underside up, the rivet body is hidden when you lay the strip rubbers although a little bump does show.

The rubber strips were added before the end caps, using a small screwdriver to pinch them in. Don't try to slide them on, you'll have no chance. I used the old rubber strips after cleaning them up with a bit of AmourAll.

For the end caps I again riveted from the underside for a clean appearance. I then cut the heads off the special Vespa rivets and glued them into place. Another photo
