Body & Paint Work

With the all the effort I'm putting into this project, I thought it would be worth the money to have the body prepared and sprayed professionally. Originally my model Vespa came in one colour, a metallic blue/grey.

In pursuit of something more exciting, I went with a metallic mustard colour that is available on the VS Holden Commodore called Hyper Mica.

I entrusted Claude Venturato and his guys at Cousins Smash Repairs (03 9354 9468) in North Coburg with the task of straightening the Vespa panels and bringing them to mint condition. The paint is two-pack, with a couple coats of colour followed by a coat of clear.

The photos don't really give the colour justice, turning it into more of a brown bronze shade but you can see the quality of the paint job is excellent.

The left sidecover had been knocked about a bit on the inside and it was not suitable to spray smooth. The solution was to spray a layer of stone chip paint over the top of the primer and then spray the final coat giving a rough yet durable surface to the inside of the glove box.

I decided to extend the use of the stone chip paint to underneath the floor of the main body and inside the front and rear fenders. Hopefully, this will provide some protection from debris flying up from the wheels and chipping the paint.
